One of the most legendary bankers~ Mr. Aditya Puri, retires today!
Born in Punjab, he hailed to the top to build a formidable institution from scratch over a 25-yr journey. While heading a foreign bank’s operations in Malaysia in the early 1990s, Puri got an offer from Deepak Parekh of HDFC Bank to come back to India to start a #bank as liberalization has just hit India. Leaving behind the luxe life & dapper suits of foreign banks, Puri came to #India & shared a rat-infested yet workable house space
Puri went through hard days of working from a mill complex & hiring ppl to build a world-class institution. He usually believed in ending days at 5:30 PM & claims not to carry a mobile phone!
He often traveled to Silicon Valley to understand the changes in the international market. As Puri’s retirement neared, all the watchers were shocked with the surprise resignation of his long-time deputy Paresh Sukthankar in 2018, who was to succeed Puri
After a yr-long process, Sashidhar Jagdishan was chosen to fill in the boots. Puri believes that the best is yet to come for the bank, however, he is tight-lipped about his personal moves. It will be interesting to look for his next steps!
