Marico Acquires Men’s Grooming Startup Beardo

1 min read

Marico Limited acquires Ahmedabad-based men’s grooming startup BEARDO in all-cash deal; amount remains undisclosed

It also acquired an 55% equity share in Beardo’s parent company Zed lifestyle thus making Zed a wholly owned subsidiary of Marico

In 2017, the FMCG firm had taken 45% #stake in Beardo, with an aim to strengthen its presence in the men’s grooming which it previously lacked in it’s personal care segment

Beardo was founded in 2015 by Ashutosh Valani & Priyank Shah in a small town in Ahemdabad

How did Beardo reach a turnover of ₹78.49 Cr in FY19-20 from ₹22.66 Cr in FY 2017-18 other than trimming costs?

•In 2016, Venture Catalysts | India’s First Integrated Incubator along-with other investors invested around $5,00,000 in Beardo & helped it grow 40x

However, with this recent #acquisition, it takes a complete exit from Beardo says, Dr. Apoorva Ranjan Sharma

Men’s grooming mkt:

2016: ₹3,200 Cr
2020: ₹10,000 Cr

Imagine what pile of cash VCat took from this exit!

Beardo’s innovation cycle is at 60-90 days compared to 8-9 months of a FMCG firm which makes it a high velocity #innovation startup & put 5,000 pieces easily on ecommerce & test mkt

1 out of 3 Indians use a Marico product, do you think with this acquisition it will “Be more everyday”?
